1. Who we are

UpBee ("we", "our", "us") is a daily planner and self-care app developed and operated as a sole proprietorship (Einzelunternehmen) based in Berlin, Germany. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / DSGVO).

2. Data we collect

Data stored locally on your device

By default, UpBee stores all personal tracking data locally on your device using AsyncStorage. This includes:

• Habits and habit completion history
• Daily goals and tasks
• Mood journal entries and diary text
• SMART goals and milestones
• Streak data and progress statistics
• App preferences and theme settings

This data never leaves your device unless you create an account and enable social features.

Data collected when you create an account

If you choose to create an UpBee account (required only for the friends and shared goals features), we collect:

• Email address
• Display name (chosen by you)
• Avatar emoji and color (chosen by you)
• Friend code (auto-generated)
• Shared tasks and their completion status
• Friend connections
• Reminders sent between friends

Data we do NOT collect

• Location data
• Contacts or phone book
• Camera or microphone access
• Device identifiers for advertising
• Behavioral tracking for advertising purposes

3. How we use your data

• To provide and improve the UpBee app
• To enable the friends and shared goals features
• To send push notifications you have enabled
• To maintain your account and authenticate you
• To respond to support requests

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties under any circumstances.

4. Third-party services

UpBee uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase (EU – Frankfurt region) — Backend database and authentication for account holders. Data stored in Germany (eu-central-1). Privacy policy
• Expo / EAS — App build and delivery infrastructure. Privacy policy
• Apple App Store / Google Play Store — App distribution. Their privacy policies apply to the purchase and download process.

5. Data storage and security

Account data is stored on Supabase servers located in Frankfurt, Germany (EU). We use Row Level Security (RLS) to ensure users can only access their own data. All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encryption.

Local device data is stored using React Native AsyncStorage and is protected by your device's built-in security.

6. Your rights (GDPR)

As an EU resident you have the right to:

• Access — Request a copy of all data we hold about you
• Correction — Request correction of inaccurate data
• Deletion — Request deletion of your account and all associated data
• Portability — Export your data in a machine-readable format
• Objection — Object to processing of your data
• Withdraw consent — At any time, without affecting past processing

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email below. We will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Berlin data protection authority (Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit).

7. Data retention

Local device data is retained until you clear it in Settings or uninstall the app. Account data is retained until you delete your account. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Sign out → Delete account, or by contacting us directly.

8. Children's privacy

UpBee is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of UpBee after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
